CURRAWONG BUSH PARK

Public BBQ

Currawong Bush Park delivers an unexpectedly wild experience just minutes from suburban Melbourne. The park's main attraction unfolds in late afternoon when eastern grey kangaroos emerge from the bushland, often greeting visitors right at the carpark. Multiple walking trails wind through the native scrubland, ranging from gentle gravel paths to challenging single-file tracks with steep climbs that demand proper footwear. The 5km creek circuit offers the most comprehensive experience, though the terrain shifts dramatically between rough bush sections and maintained walkways. Wildlife enthusiasts will find abundant birdlife calling throughout the day, while families appreciate the combination of barbecue facilities and educational opportunities. The narrow drive to the second carpark requires patience, but weekday visits reveal a peaceful retreat where dogs on leads are welcome and crowds remain refreshingly minimal.
